1000 Ways To Talk Reflection
1000 Ways To Talk Reflection
We have walked through many games and looked through their movements. Now we have come to the end of our walks together. I looked at a variety of games and explained the movement and the way the games react to movement.
The Legend of Nidhogg
The first game we explored was Nidhogg. In this game I tried to demonstrate the basics of movement in games. I also learned that despite the simplicity of this game, it has very complex movements. We also got to see how the game reacts to movement. If this game gets certain conditions it will lose focus and glitch out.
DK And A Barrel Of Movement
The next game we looked at was Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. In this game we saw that 2d games can be complex and have some 3d interactions. This showed a lot of unique ways you can move. I had never played this game before. I had only played the really old super nintendo version of Donkey Kong. I actually learned a lot about this game. This game's movement proves a point in my goal. My goal was to show that there are a lot of different ways to move in video games. While this game is similar to Nidhogg it has a different movement.
The Witcher And The Magic Of Movement
Next we looked at the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Here we got to see the world in 3d. It introduced my 3d movement. It also gave a perspective I hadn’t initially intended to look at. Controls are not the only thing that determines movement. The game itself will have different movements. The Witcher is primarily a melee game which means you should and kind of do get close to everything. While it introduced us to 3d movement, it also made me realize there’s more to movement that controls.
The Mass Effect Of Movement
Next we looked at Mass Effect. This game showed 3d movement again. This game showed the difference between a game like the Witcher and a game like this. They have relatively the same movement but this game requires you to do things from a far and has a lot of stuff I didn’t really talk about too much in that post.
The Pyramid Of Movement
Finally I got to my two VR games about time and space. We got a look at what it is like to be in the matrix. Moral of the story it’s cool but it also kind of sucks. With this game I showed off how much of an extra dimension VR adds to the table. I also gave you a look at how movement matters when time only moves when you do. This game had a silly error where you can literally hide inside objects. While the game still reacts to your movement it does get stuck eventually.
A Lone Echo Of Movement
Lastly I looked at Lone Echo. This was the game I was always going to use for my last post. This was to show that VR can allow for the most unusual movement. I hope you understand the experience of anti gravity or no gravity better. Trying to play a game with movement like this is very unique. I didn’t get everything I wanted with this game but I think I got enough to make this achieve its goal.
I think I achieved my goal of showing the variety of movement in video games. I also learned a lot about movement and how games react to movement. I tried to choose a good representation of a wide variety of movements but there are still countless more ways to move. I hope you enjoyed my blog. I also hope this inspires you to walk and find movement of your own. This is the end of 1000 ways to walk. Give feedback if you want to.
